Each year the Johnston Police Department responds to many calls regarding dogs, usually running at large, that have attacked a person or other animal. In some cases, after investigating the incident, the dog is declared vicious. Declaring a dog vicious requires the owner to meet certain containment or insurance requirements that can be expensive. In most cases, the attacks could have been prevented if the owner would have taken the responsibility to make sure the dog is properly contained on their property.
A dog running at-large is a violation of city code. Out of respect for your neighbors, take whatever measures are necessary to contain your dog on your property.
