About Johnston

The City of Johnston was incorporated in 1969 and has a mayor/city council form of government. The mayor is elected at-large to a two-year term and five city council members are elected at-large to four-year, staggered terms. Mayor Paula Dierenfeld has served on the council or as mayor since 1999. Mayor Dierenfeld is on her sixth term as mayor. 

The city council meets on the first and third Mondays of each month. Work sessions are scheduled for 6 p.m. and regular meetings are scheduled for 7 p.m. Click here to view the meeting agendas and minutes. 

City Council meetings are held at City Hall, located at 6221 Merle Hay Road. Staff is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., to assist with administrative functions of the city.
